Follow A Maintenance Checklist You’ll Stick To
Scheduling regular automotive maintenance is essential if you want your vehicle to run properly for a long time. Prolonging auto care can lead to more costly and complex repairs. To avoid paying for intricate repairs, it is best to follow a maintenance schedule. You should definitely read your car’s owner manual to have a better understanding of the maintenance schedule that best suits your brand of vehicle, however, Nationwide has composed a maintenance checklist that should give you a good idea of when to check certain parts of your vehicle.
Parts You Should Attend to ASAP
Communication is key in any relationship, even the relationship you have with your car. Your vehicle will tell you when there is something off or wrong. Do not ignore these signs. In fact, there are warning lights that should be attended to immediately. Bring your vehicle in for maintenance as soon as possible if you notice the following:
- Check Engine Light
- Tire Pressure Light
- The Headlights or Taillights Are Blown
- Poor Wiper Blades
Elements You Should Check Monthly
There are certain elements of your vehicle that need to be attended to monthly to keep your car running smoothly. It is a good rule of thumb to have the following checked and filled up once a month:
- Coolant/Antifreeze
- Engine Oil
- Windshield Wiper Fluid
Every Three Months or 3,000 Miles
Other parts of your vehicle do not have to be checked as often, but it is still important to keep an eye on them. These parts can be checked every three months or every 3,000 miles, whichever comes first. These items to check include:
- The Battery and Cables
- Automatic Transmission Fluid
- Engine Air Filter
- V-belts and Serpentine Belts
- Hoses
- Tire Pressure and Tire Treads
