Blurry background of the chef pouring the sauce on steak

If you’ve been watching the steady rise of Alabama’s culinary reputation in recent years, then you’ve likely heard the name Chef James Boyce mentioned throughout. The seasoned chef has opened a family of excellent restaurants around Huntsville, and it all started with Cotton Row in the heart of downtown.

Getting Started

To pique your appetite, you can order from a selection of starters like the fried green tomatoes, which come with house-made hot sauce and red pepper aioli. There are also the grilled romaine lettuce hearts as well as the truffled French fries. Don’t overlook the heirloom tomato and Italian burrata with aged balsamic, or the artisanal charc and cheese board with an arrangement of dried fruits, nuts, and other garnishes.

From the Sea

Cotton Row offers a variety of seafood starters along with the appetizing turf options. You could start simply with the chilled Gulf shrimp salad, which features fresh flavors like watermelon and grapefruit, or you might prefer the Apalachicola oysters which come cornmeal-crusted and served with tomato horseradish remoulade. The crayfish and Amish corn risotto features piquant andouille, while the Bayou La Batre crab cake sports buttered corn relish and dill remoulade.

When it’s time for the main course, the kitchen will be ready to turn out any of the artfully assembled dishes on Cotton Row’s dinner menu. Pasta lovers will enjoy the porcini and truffle mushroom ravioli with aged parmesan, marjoram, and short rib ragu. If you want seafood, consider the Cajun spiced Gulf redfish with okra, field pea succotash, and cilantro cream. If it’s steak you’re looking for, Cotton Row serves up Black Angus filet mignon, center cut prime New York strip, and prime bone-in ribeye, all with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. You can also choose the sauce to go with your steak, whether you prefer velvety bordelaise, creamy bearnaise, or peppery au poivre.

Cotton Row is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The restaurant is located at 100 South Side Square, Huntsville, Alabama 35801. If you’re planning ahead, you can make a reservation with Cotton Row online.
